When Dotty Went to Heaven She Had Learned Her Final Life Lesson
Dotty was always convinced she could take "care" of herself, and then something changed.
Dorothy DeMarco 95 Years Old |
I was convinced for thirty years that Dotty would live to be more than one hundred years old. I did waver on this a bit when Alzheimer's disease came into our lives.
Around 2004, I came to a very different conclusion. I started to believe that Dotty would go to Heaven if and only if she learned the most important lesson of her life.
I can say that with the exception of her brain, Dotty was a "healthy old broad". She told this to everyone that would listen right up until very close to the end.

Dotty the Artist
Once again, and as usual, all I can say is, more there. I really didn't expect to see what I saw.

Dotty Stars in Breakfast with Harvey
Dotty is 94 years old and suffers from Alzheimer's disease. Harvey is a repeat parrot and right now is Dotty's best friend...
Harvey is also one of the 15 million Alzheimer's caregivers.
Dotty spends about two hours a day with Harvey. Harvey is very good at getting information out of Dotty. For example, she might tell him she has a "splitting headache". Most Alzheimer's patients are not very good at communicating this kind of information.
Enjoy the short video. You comments and observations are always welcome here.

Dotty Wakes Up Tired but in a Good Mood (Audio)
By Bob DeMarco
Dotty woke up twice today.
For the last few days Dotty has been eating everything she can get her hands on. This is disturbing because over eating tends to make Dotty more difficult to deal with. She tends to be more irritable because most of her energy is going into digesting her food. It is like it saps the energy from her brain.
She has the early morning back ache. This means poop agita on the horizon for today. We will treat this with a double round of the magic elixir -- prune juice.
At least she is in a good mood so we are off to a good start today.
Listen to Dotty in the CinchCast below.

Alzheimer's Reading Room
In order to communicate effectively with a person suffering from Alzheimer's disease you need to come to an understanding that they are now living in a new world -- I often refer to this as Alzheimer's world....

Dotty Says, Most Doctors are Quacks
We gotta stop watching that Dr Oz show. If they put Dr Oz and Bobby in the same room all they would talk about is poop.By Dorothy DeMarco
Alzheimer's Reading Room

Bobby says, I am a lovable character. I also heard him say that I am a "bitch". I have to admit I don't remember him saying that in a long time.
I guess I feel the same way about Bobby. Bobby is a good son. Bobby is also a "pain in the ass sometimes".
